Ms. Sylvester was hired as the music teacher at Prairie Crossing Charter School beginning fall 2014. She is thrilled to be joining such a dedicated and talented staff, and enthusiastic about working with this wonderful K-8 age group!
Ms. Sylvester graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in Music Education. She has had experience teaching general music, music history and choir locally with grades K-8 in Lake Zurich, Crystal Lake and Mundelein. She also has experience in drama and movement since working with a local theater company on productions such as The Wizard of Oz, Annie, and Shrek. She hopes to put these wonderful experiences into use here at PCCS.
Ms. Sylvester has a strong passion for music and education alike. Music helps all learning come to life through creating, performing and responding to the world around us. Since music is as varied as each individual student, her goal is to find ways to make music relatable to everyone. She plans to deepen each student’s knowledge about music, to inspire continuous growth, and to spark a life-long love and appreciation for music. Through a creative hands-on approach, Ms. Sylvester is eager to explore areas of performance, music history, literature, and theory with these students.
Outside of school, Ms. Sylvester loves spending time outdoors hiking, biking or playing with her dog Pepper. Other hobbies she enjoys include cooking, traveling and playing the ukulele.
